✦ It All Starts With Pain: A Manifesto for Writers and Marketers

This blog (like my career) is built on a simple belief:
Great stories and great marketing come from the same place—pain.

In fiction, a story doesn’t begin until something hurts. A character gets rejected, betrayed, fired, dumped, or challenged. Something happens and it hurts. The pain kicks the character out of their comfort zone and forces them to act, evolve, and change (or die trying).

In marketing, pain is the reason your product exists. No one buys a solution unless they feel the sting of a problem. Behind every click, scroll, and sale is someone trying to soothe something that hurts.

Whether I’m writing a novel or crafting a campaign, I start in the same place:
Who’s hurting? Why? What makes it better?

This blog is where I explore those questions through the lens of my own creative mess process. You’ll find notes from both sides of the work: what we can learn from stories, what we can learn from brands, and what we get when the two intersect. If you’re into plot points and pain points, you’re in the right place.
