A Wild Tribe of Writers

I am so inspired by Seth Godin’s book Tribes and how its pages apply to writers. This is not a boring business text, but a Guide to Revolution. Tribes is a story about heretics and the movements, micro and macro, they drive.

As writers we have voices already. We are heretics not by nurture, but by design. Heresy is inherent in our DNA. What will we do with it? As Mr. Godin points out it used to be hard to publish a book. Now anyone can. All that’s left is writers who tell themselves, “No.”

Given the technological platforms at our disposal, we have an opportunity to make our work known. Opportunity is not the right word, though. Make that obligation. That’s a strong word, I know. If we believe in our work, our story, the information or message we want to share, it is true.

We are poised to change the world, this wild tribe of writers. Imagine all of us fully invested in raising our voices and cutting through the chaos. It’s going to be a colorful ride to the magical place.

Writing is an artistic pursuit. Selling and promoting our work is not. Many writers, this one included, find the business aspects of our careers about as fun as holding our heads underwater. Successful writers, however, are both artist and business-minded marketers. Because of this I’ve added some important links to the Blogroll.

Seth Godin: Seth is the author of ten international best sellers. His niche is Marketing, but all of his books encompass the modern business landscape. ”Tribes,” his most recent gem, is a must-read for every one with a brand. Click on Seth’s head for his blog. He writers every day – visit often.

The Art of Nonconformity: Chris Guillebeau became a Pro Blogger in 279 days. He shares his secrets and more while inspiring readers to change the world. He states, “If you’ve ever felt like “there must be more” to life, this site is for you.” Don’t all writers recognize there’s more to life?
